Feeling ugly? There’s an app for that.
In a culture where celebrity magazines sales are soaring, Kim Kardashian is considered a real person and Primark insist on selling push-up bras for five-year-olds, you know what we really need? What we really need is an app that makes you feel shit about how you look.
Welcome Pixtr, the application that, as its tagline helpfully explains, “makes you photogenic and puts your best face forward.” Ta, Pixtr. As well as smoothing out your skin and removing all those pesky freckles, the app can give you a virtual nose job, slim your jawline and groom your eyebrows.
Aviv Gadot, the Israeli founder says that his inspiration came from his wife: “”My wife was always grabbing my phone and deleting most of my pictures. She’s beautiful and she feels bad about how she looks in photos. That’s wrong. I wanted her to feel good about herself.” Gadot has yet to explain how exactly he thought the app would achieve this last point but hey, at least she’s now got gloriously smooth skin. In the pictures.
At the risk of sounding like a middle-aged, technology naysayer, this is one app that the world, and particularly the world of female teenagers, could do without. If there’s one thing worse than someone telling you your nose is too big, it’s your phone telling you it is.
